So I am by no means a design guru… but I also feel as a homeowner and someone who enjoys learning, knowing, and doing a lot of projects in my own home (or if Im not doing them myself, Im acting as a “G.C.” in many ways).  So this topic came up today when a FB friend posted how she feels she is living in shitty kitchen hell!  While I can totally relate to having a shitty kitchen, I thankfully never had to use the one that came with this house… It was soooo nasty that I would barely even put stuff down on the counters!  So anyways after chatting back and forth.. see convo below :)

That’s so awesome. Thanks! The main problem is that the room is really crooked and the floor slanted by a lot. The entire thing needs to be gutted, then re-insulated and sheet rocked basically. Everytime someone comes to give us an estimate its really pricey and they have another idea for cabinet layout or uncovered another issue that leads us to rethink the design. Also the house is small and quirky and can’t stand (re-sale) a huge renovation. So, not only do we have a tight budget anyway but it’s being used up on unseen foundation stuff! We’re having to compromise everywhere and we don’t know what to do!!!! Lastly, we don’t really know what we want ha! all I know is I’ve been living with a crappy galley kitchen and without our plates and cups etc (still in boxes) for 7months now and I’m losing my shit!!!

You DO need to make the house safe and functional for you all to live in.. so if that means to tear out the kitchen and re do it, you should.  Yes you should make sure that you do not OVERSPEND… if you dont think the house would benefit from it in re-sale.. but also dont look at doing something like the kitchen or bathrooms as a bust, they are NOT and they WILL sell your home if they are nice, tasteful, and you dont need to go overboard to get something that looks good and nice.. also, you most likely did not buy this home with the intent to flip it and make $$$ if you plan to live there for a long time you will most likely see a return on your investment, or at least break even when you DO sell it one day… I look at all the projects we do in our home as a way to benefit our lives, yes I think they will all help if we ever sell, but I dont do anything I do just for that purpose.. or NOT do something for that matter.. I do it cause I want to. I plan to live here till Im old and gray!

So I dont really have a choice.. my little bird takes 1 nap a day.  It is usually between 1.5-2.5hrs each day… I am most def NOT complaining.. But as I was cleaning up my shoes and trying to figure out how we would spend our Friday I started to think to myself… Oh man if only she took 2 naps still!   Well, 2 naps means 10-11ish for a morning and then possibly naps again around 3 or 4pm.  Which when you want to go out to lunch with Nana, or take a random trip to the mall or the grocery store before 8am, or even go on a day trip it is MUCH easier when they nap in the AM so you can get going shortly after they wake.  Unlike my one nap taking sweetie who goes down 11/1130 and sleeps till 1 or even 2!  Really it is not a TERRIBLE thing but it does kinda stinks when stores dont open till 10 and you need to feed your child shortly after they wake and then again at around 5 AND you live in a heavily congested traffic area!  If you had a choice.. would you take 1 longer mid-day nap or 2 short ones (that equaled out to the same amount of time)?  Some days I wish I could do 2, like today.  But oh well, this is where we are at and I thank my lucky starts that AT LEAST she DOES nap… but in a dream world… :)

I have been trying for MONTHS to capture this face on camera.  I almost never seem to capture it… unless yesterday!  I finally got it! I love this scrunchy face that she makes when she thinks she is being silly (which she usually is)  What your babies favorite face,  have you captured it on camera?  If so, please share it with me on my FB page! https://www.facebook.com/ThisLovelyHome

The moment BEFORE the scrunchy face :)

Snuggle Buggle

02.17.2013

Today was the first time since R. was a tiny infant that she snuggled with me (For more then 10mins watching Mickey Mouse)  She laid on the couch with me and watched her show while she had her bottle…  after the show was over I asked M. to pick her up so we could lay her down… and she had a MELTDOWN!  So I quickly scooped her back from him and told her it was ok and laid her back next to me on the couch… we proceeded to snuggle, and watch the wiggles and just chill out.  I heard some sweet little sleepy yawns and decided it was best to let her nap in her bed.. even though Im pretty sure she would have slept next to me.  I think scooped her up all snuggly and we laid her down  and…. WITHOUT HER BOTTLE!!!  This is the FIRST TIME since 8mns old that she has gone down for a nap or bedtime without drinking from a bottle!!!! So this morning was an awesome morning. I snuggled with my little bird and MAYBE we can turn the corner and not have a bottle in the crib for naptime?!

Happy Sunday everyone!!!!

AFTER!!!

OMG, I am in love with my now BEAUTIFUL fireplace!  When we originally purchased our home one of the things I HATED about our house was the fireplace and the way it took over the ONLY wall in our home that made any sense in our oddly “mushroom” shaped living room to put our TV.  Also, when you have a fireplace, you want it to be the focus of the room, not the eyesore. So Remy had her 15mn appointment this AM. She is in the 14% for height at 29in and WOOT WOOT finally on the growth curve for weight, in the 5% for weight at 19lb 4oz! The Dr. said that she is doing really awesome and seems to be comprehending things well, interested in stuff, she obvs. is super active and she loves that and says it is great that she is so independent and willing to explore. She also said that 3 of her 4 molars should make come through soon as they are super swollen in that area, so she would say that within this next month! She said that because R. is still on the tiny side and she struggles with keeping on the calories to continue to give her the 2 bottles a day (which are 4oz of pediasure each) She DID say that if R. isnt really starting to say words by 18mns that she is going to want her to get rid of the bottle since it can hinder oral dexterity in some kids and that they would have to make sure that wasnt some of the problem.  But she doesnt think so, because she isnt a drooler  and doesnt have a problem with chewing.   She also said that while it is OK from 12-24mns that they have diff ways and times of learning she found over time that 18mns toddlers that dont talk much get frustrated by not being able to communicate with their parents and throw a lot more tantrums then more verbal kids which becomes stressful for both kids and parents.. so she will suggest we do OT at that point so we dont get to that stress level if it is necessary.  She said to continue to teach her signs in the event that she isnt doing a lot of talking, to help with her not become frustrated.   All in all my peanut is doing great!  I am enjoying these ped. visits MUCH more then the earlier ones!

I struggle with this… I would NEVER consider my home dirty… in fact, quite the opposite.. it is quite clean.  I clean the counters frequently, if not daily.. I always clean the table off after every meal.. we vacuum often, and we have a cleaning lady every 2 weeks that also contributes to our homes cleanliness.  HOWEVER is my home NEAT and tidy?  NOPE!  Does it kinda piss me off, hells yah!  I wont lie, I was never a totally “counters clear” kinda gal… I did not grow up in a home like that, my mom has magazines piled on our kitchen table, she has more pens and pads of paper in the kitchen then I could use in a lifetime, and so on… So I know learned from the best.  However I HATE IT.  I will also say, that my “Stuff” is 1/2 the time junk, I dont know what to do with, so it ends up on our dining room table, or a section of our kitchen counter that is my 2nd dumping ground, other 1/2 out of R’s reach stuff.  So, I am not sure what to do with it all?!

How do you all keep your surfaces clean and clear, does it drive you crazy too?  Are the drying racks of bottles and containers of this and that out on your counters really getting to you?  They sure as hell are getting to me!  Im tired of looking at the empty cookie jar I dont even like sitting on my counters and the flash cards of baby sign language I never opened laying on the dining room table.

Someone come and give me the clean sweep and show me how to keep it all clear!  Any suggestions??!?!!  Anyone ready to come over for an intervention???
