AFTER!!! WOW, THERE IS A HOUSE HERE! AWESOME!!!

When we went to see the house it was mid-Feb. and any of the mess that was the front and back lawn was well hidden under much snow and then, after the snow melted under frozen ground. By the time we purchased the house all that had changed! Then all the trees, saplings, weeds, bugs, animals, and more were out in FULL FORCE! Click the read more to see some AMAZING before and after transformations!!!

newbathroom

While I still need to get you the demo photos of the master bathroom but I do have a before and an AMAZING (j/k!) drawing to show you of the new layout.  See we had every intention of gutting and re-doing the MBR in a few years.. but never anticipated adding it to the immediate MUST DO list that we had originally put together… however like most things in life, and esp. when it comes to gutting and renovating a home unexpected things come up all the time!

demo-1033

My cousin Michael told me last minute that he would be coming up for 2 days to help power demo the house with M. and his dad.. with that being said, there was no time to find a dumpster company who was willing to bring the dumpster to our new place within a 24hr period.

So these past 12 days have been crazy! We closed on the house and I was almost regretting our decision due to the amount of work in the yard.. and then our lovely families came to help us demo the S*** out of the inside.

We close on our house today!!! YAH!!!! Im super excited that the day is finally here.. so much so that it is 5:30 in the morning and I am wide away.  BUT that might also have to do with the fact that I am FREAKING out about the yard..both front and back!  The previous owner let the property fall into great disrepair and now it is on M. and I to fix it.  I knew when we put the offer in for the home that we would need to do work, but to tell you the truth I was surprised when I went to the walk through yesterday to see the backyard look like it did.  There are mountains of over grown weeds and plants and we have SO MANY TREES! Dont get me wrong, I like trees.. but with trees come bugs and animals… The main bug (besides a nasty-ass cockroach ~Im shivering with disgust) are the MOSQUITOES!  We have a pool that hasnt been running after she opened it for us, we just had some rain approx. 2 weeks ago, the whole house is covered in shade and the lawn front and back has not been maintained so there are piles of wet leaves from the fall, the weeds, over grown everything! I know you are thinking.. mosquitos?  But for those of you who dont have this problem I am a mosquitos favorite snack and while some people get bite and it itches a little bit no biggie.. NOT ME! I get bit and the WHOLE AREA around the bite gets red, puffy, swollen, itchy, etc.. it is terrible! I also had a bad freak-out w/mosquitoes when I was in Australia 2 winters ago and was majorly attacked (I never got over that one, still having nightmares!) So yah.. now Im freakin out, dont want to step a foot outside the house when I get there and just want to run for cover before the little suckers (no pun intended) eat me alive!  Anyone know how to help?!?!?  AAHHHHH!

Morgan and I FINALLY got around (After 9mns of the lighting fixture sitting in our guest room) to installing it into our master bathroom this past weekend. We purchased both of the lighting fixtures at Lowes M. knew what to do to install it since he already had experience doing the other fixture in our main bathroom… click the “read more” to follow the step by step (with photos!) of how to install a new light fixture in your own bathroom

Hi All. As Im sitting here on this wonderful Sunday afternoon watching HGTV and DIY network I have been thinking, what should be done first in our new house.. If you were re-doing your home (pretty much from top to bottom) what would you do first?

  1. tear down wall between kitchen and dining room (will need to put up a column but thats ok)
  2. re-do kitchen
  3. current owner has a weird “window” she made between the living and dining room we plan to open it up and make a walk way between both rooms
  4. tear up carpeting ~ we arent sure which type of flooring to put down, but the carpet is BAD! Also, she has wood floors in only 2 rooms.. do we keep those and try to match it, or should we take it up and get all new floors?
  5. re-do 3rd bathroom that is un-usable (it is also the smallest, so wondering if it is good starter bathroom project
  6. all the doors and closet doors and trim are made of cheapy- hollow door 70′s brown composite ~ we plan to replace all the doors and frames
  7. re-do master bathroom ~ it is not NEARLY as nice as the photo on the listing make it out to be
  8. put pocket doors between the newly designated Stacey’s office (was the den prior) and the dining room and living room.
  9. put in sliding door in master bedroom leading to the backyard

Would love to hear your thoughts and advice on my on-going list… let me know what YOU would do 1st, leave a comment!

I know we live in an a digital world and while I am part of that digital experience I cant help but still love the feeling of a magazine between my fingers, the dog-earring of pages I want to keep for future reference and the simplicity a magazine can bring you rather then the over load of website and link followed by more links and so on.
